Mangalore, Jan 30: With the arrival of the main line container vessel M V Kota Handal of PIL to the New Mangalore Port here on Tuesday January 29, the cherished and long awaited dream of importers and exporters has finally come true.

According to a press release, NMPT chairman P Tamilvanan along with HoDs, cargo handling workers, deputy chairman M A Bhaskarachar, and port users all welcomed the vessel by presenting a bouquet to the captain. The release stated that the vessel under the agency of Sea Master Shipping and Logistics in the city, has a total capacity of 1088 TEUs with 200 reefer plug points. It anchored at NMPT directly from Matwara of East Africa with 121 TEUs of raw cashew.

The release further stated that the vessel will also load 105 export containers to be carted off to various destinations. The transit period of the vessel from East Africa to this port city was 7 days and the next port will be Singapore via Cochin within 8 days. This will bode well for the raw cashew importers and reefer cargo exporters as there is reduction in transit period, added the release.

On the occasion Tamilvanan called upon the workers, briefing them about the significance of the main vessel. Moreover he made a plea to continue their co-operation for the development and growth of the port in the coming days.
