Mangalore, Jan 29: "IT festivals and technologies must also focus on the local angle giving importance to the industrial development of the region," opined State Bank of India city branch assistant general manager M Tallur.

Tallur was speaking after inaugurating 'Sygma 08', a national-level management and IT fest, organized by SDM College of Business Management here on Monday January 28 at the SDM College premises.

Addressing the function, Tallur exhorted the SDM College to imbibe local aspects into the fest. He  said that local angles about fisheries, tile factory business etc could be taken up by students during the fest, which in turn would give them deeper insight into the local business too.

Tallur suggested that delegates and students from across the world should also be invited to management and IT festivals to give it a broader perspective. According to him if not all, at least participants from the B-schools of SAARC nations should be invited.  The motto of the festival being 'pursuit of excellence', Tallur felt that "the pursuit of excellence would be a mirage which would never end".

City SEZ CEO A G Pai released a souvenir 'Sync-Vision' on the occasion. According to him students must have far-reaching vision in addition to their academic excellence. Calling the students ‘Pillars of the Nation,’ he exhorted the students not to just aim at becoming managers, instead they should have vision and become visionaries.

With regard to the development of the region and impact on environment, Pai cited example of depleting forest areas in the country. He said that development should not harm the environment and culture of the region.

Various management games were organized as part of the programme for the students. The final round of the games will be held on Tuesday, January 28. ‘Chess’ is the theme for the fest this year, with students from various B-schools all over the country taking part in the events to be held as the part of the fest.

Among those present were college principal Dr Devaraj K, staff coordinators Sumathi and Divya Uchil, president of student council campus recruitment in-charge Shreevatsa Gudi.

Mr. Tallur is absolutely right. We should concentrate on those industries which produces and gives us our daily bread. Yes, we should also learn IT because it makes things easier but IT doesn't produce any foodgrains. It may give jobs so we earn money, but if there is no foodgrains available, what we eat?

Therefore, if we wnat to see the world has enough food for all then our priority should be on those industries which makes foodgrains because these are the main industries and rest of the industries are only back-up.
