Mangalore, Jan 27: In view of the tense situation prevailing in Ullal due to the series of violent incidents seen since the past week, the city elders and prominent leaders of various communities took out a peace march in Ullal on Saturday, Jan 26. Their main objective was to foster the bonds of brotherhood among people and what better day then the country's republic day.

On Friday, Jan 25, as by now all are aware a peace committee meeting was held at the deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao's office. Coming on the heels of this peace initiative, this new peace march was another attempt at trying to pacify frayed tempers after the sporadic outbursts of communal violence witnessed during the week.

More then a hundred political leaders participated in the said peace march which was conducted under the hawk eyes of the local police. According to informed sources this march was successful as participants moved in quiet solemn silence throughout, but making their point obvious. Placard, posters and banners exhorting all to foster communal amity and harmony were held aloft by the participants.

The procession began its journey from Ullal main road, slowly winding it way through Kodi, Kotepura, Moghaveers Patna and finally culminating in front of Rani Abbakka's statue. There several leaders made a speech before hordes of people who had gathered to hear them. The meeting finally ended with everyone pledging to work towards peace and harmony.

This is a welcome move by all communities and police of Ullal. India is a country which has all potential to become a super power. But the hindrance could be the communal violence . Unless the government and politicians chalk out plans to establish harmony between communities we will be doomed and our future is bleak ,Peace will not prevail.

Government policies and education system should be complementary to this. I remember my childhood when there was no barrier between communities and now a days every kid feels the barrier
