Bangalore: Traffic Management System in Two Months

Bangalore, Jan 26: An integrated Traffic Management System (TMS) to monitor traffic signals in the city will be operational in two months.

Speaking at the release of study report on ‘Problems and Remedies of the Traffic System in Bangalore City’, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K C Ramamurthy said that 270 traffic signals will be upgraded by BEL.

These signals will be integrated and connected to the main server. "We can monitor traffic from the central office,’’ he said. Ramamurthy said that some 1,500 new vehicles are registered everyday in Bangalore, which will make around 5 lakh a year.

At present vehicle population has crossed 35 lakh and the city roads has the capacity to hold 8 lakh vehicles. He further said that the concept of Outer Ring Road (ORR) is not serving the purpose. "ORR has become part of the city and vehicle movement has remained a problem," he added.

Ramamurthy suggested that educational institutes, government and private organisation should working in different hours, which will avoid overflow of vehicles.

Speaking on the report that was released, Ramamurthy said that the suggestions will be submitted to the government. The report prepared by late M C Shantamurthy, suggests measures like widening of existing roads, construction of new roads, flyovers and multi layer roads to ease congestion and ensure better flow of traffic.
