RBI should publicly state bank wise supply of currency notes:Unions

Chennai, Dec 2 (IANS): Two major unions in the banking sector on Friday urged Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to advise the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to publicly announce the details of currency notes supplied to various banks.

In a joint letter to Jaitley, the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA) pointed out RBI's repeated public statements that adequate cash is being supplied to banks whereas the reality is otherwise.

These statements are making the public to feel that RBI is supplying cash to Banks and bank staff are deliberately not extending payments, the unions said.

"It is highly imperative in this background that RBI should be advised to publicly announce the details of currency notes supplied by them to various Currency Chests/Banks on a daily basis so that the allegations that some selected Banks are being favoured with more currency notes and public sector banks are discriminated (against) can be answered properly," the unions said.
