Clinton's campaign asks FBI to reveal Trump's Russian ties

Washington, Nov 1 (IANS): The campaign of Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton has urged the director of the FBI to disclose the information on the alleged ties of Republican candidate Donald Trump with the Russian government.

In a conference call with reporters on Monday, Clinton's campaign manager Robby Mook insisted that Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey should apply the same standard to the two candidates, Efe news reported.

On October 28, Comey revealed that the bureau is investigating newly discovered emails that could be linked to Clinton's use of a private email server when she was Secretary of State, a matter which he closed in July.

His decision has raised hackles since it was announced just days ahead of the presidential elections on November 8, which some consider a lack of responsibility by Comey, who even may have violated a federal law by using official authority for the purpose of interfering with the election outcome.

"It is impossible to view this as anything less than a blatant double standard," Mook said in the conference call.

"Director Comey is the one who opened this door, he is the one who broke protocol when he provided information on an investigation before it concluded," Clinton's campaign manager said.

Mook's comments came immediately after CNBC News reported that Comey did not want to publicly accuse Russia of meddling in the upcoming presidential elections, but the FBI decided to disclose that the bureau was reviewing new evidence in its investigation into Clinton's private email server.

"He (Comey) needs to immediately explain this incongruence and apply the same standard to Donald Trump's associates as he as applied to Hillary Clinton," Mook reiterated.
