Modi calls for an end to gender discrimination in India


New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS): Hailing the accomplishments of girls on International Day of the Girl Child, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called upon the nation to end gender discrimination.

"The girl child has left a mark in every area, from studies to sports. Saluting their accomplishments on International Day of the Girl Child," Modi said on Twitter.

"We should collectively work towards an India where there is no discrimination based on gender and where girls get all opportunities to shine," he said in his tweet.

International Day of the Girl Child is a UN declared international observance day which is celebrated globally on October 11 since 2012.
