Akhilesh backs Rahul's 'dalali' remark; SP too slams BJP's 'politicisation'

Lucknow, Oct 10 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday supported Rahul Gandhi's remarks accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of doing 'dalali' over the blood shed by Indian soldiers, while his Samajwadi Party also attacked the BJP over "politicising" last month's surgical strikes by the army across the Line of Control.

"If he (Gandhi) has said that, he must have said it after due thinking... he must have his reasons," Akhilesh Yadav said in reply to media queries on Gandhi's remark.

"I visited some of the martyrs' houses... it is the poor who are dying. What do they know about surgical strikes," he said, adding that he shares cordial relations with Gandhi.

Addressing a rally last week, Gandhi had accused Modi of taking political mileage from the surgical strikes saying the Prime Minister was seeking to "profiteer" from the blood shed by Indian soldiers.

Observing that Gandhi's "choice of words could have been better", Samajwadi Party (SP) spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia stressed upon the "message" that Gandhi's remarks carried and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising the surgical strikes carried on terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

"The choice of words could have been better but the point is the message that he (Gandhi) has given through his statement and what Akhilesh Yadav is also referring to," Bhatia told India Today to a query if the UP Chief Minister was defending Gandhi's remark.

"When it comes to surgical strikes, all politcal parties, including the SP, supported the Prime Minister's decision and will do it in the future as well. But what is most unfortunate is the way BJP leaders have politicised the strikes and indulged in chest thumping, especially in poll-bound UP," he said, citing the recent visit of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to Agra where he lauded the surgical strikes.

"It is because of this chest thumping that the Prime Minister had to warn his party leaders. Hope they will listen to him," added Bhatia.

The BJP, however, termed Akhilesh Yadav's defence of Gandhi as unfortunate.

"The comments reflect the typical partisan biased mindset of Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party which is motivated by caste, creed, religion and electoral and political motivations.

"Its unfortunate... political parties should refrain from indulging in politics over the armed forces. I think he (Yadav) should desist from defending such comments," said BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi.

When a Government of Modi has no results to offer they resort to such cheap ways of earning votes by politicising army action. Lets not forget Kargil war which was resorted to after lowering the guard and letting the enemy occupy our land and then a war. NDA 1 & 2 are no different while playing with the lives of our soldiers. Then they glorify the slain soldiers by declaring huge compensation. Life of our soldiers is more important than the money the government disburses. Lets remember every soldier is a son to his parents brother to his sister and a husband to his wife. The call of the nation to defend her borders apart, the death of every soldier hurts the family first irrespective of what statements the family makes on hearing the sad news. Modi should not politicize routine army action as an achievement of his government.

War is between equals. India is Ten times larger then Pakistan and 30 time larger in Economy. Wining a war with Pakistan should not be celebrated. India should prevent humiliation by a small country. We should fight war with larger countries like China and celebrate

    Strikes by congress ????

What is the harm in announcing the surgical strike to world ? It was part of strategy to show the difference in our posture to our enemy. But publishing the surgical strike video is definitely not good for the safety of country. But congress wanted it to be published.

The current operation was confirmed by DGMO of Indian Army which you don't believe and you believe some report by news paper which was never confirmed by our army.

Now tell me who is politicising it ?

Do you still think that people are fools to buy the story.

@ Anirudh...brilliant points buddy....Goddamn it...the BJP publicised the entire the surgical attack the way it is today is purely due to pappu/kujli and co constantly barking as to what the government is upto???? Modi being modi had to give it back....unlike maun mohan singh...infact even manmohan would have given back during 26/11....but we have the crook family ruling the congress high command....who would do anything to be in power and appease certain sections of the society.....anyways...dongi's will crib till they ever see their party in power in centre!!!!
