Curfew imposed in Srinagar after 12-year-old dies in pellet firing

Srinagar, Oct 8 (PTI): Curfew remained in force in seven police station areas of the city today following death of a minor boy, who was injured during clashes between protestors and security forces in Safakadal area of the city.

12-year-old Junaid Akhoon succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Hospital at Soura late last night, taking the death toll in the ongoing unrest in Kashmir to 84, a police official said.

Akhoon was hit by pellets in the head and chest at Saidapora in Safakadal Police Station area yesterday during clashes between protestors and security forces, the official said.

He said curfew remained in force in seven police station areas of the city as a precautionary measure for maintaining law and order. "Curfew has been imposed as a precautionary measure in seven police station areas of Srinagar city," the official said here.

He said the police station areas where curfew has been imposed are Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal, Maharaj Gunj, Maisuma and Batamaloo.

"Restrictions on assembly of people are in force in rest of the Kashmir Valley while security forces have been deployed in strength to maintain law and order," the official said.

Normal life remained affected for the 92nd consecutive day in Kashmir following killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on July 8.

The unrest, which has claimed 84 lives including that of two cops and left thousands of others injured in clashes between protestors and security forces, yesterday entered the fourth month as shops, business establishments, petrol pumps and educational institutions remained closed, while public transport continued to be off the roads.

The roads across Srinagar city today wore a deserted look with security forces checking the handful of private vehicles seen on the roads.

Commendable steps taken by our security forces. I salute them for their act of valour. I also wish they adopt the policy of "shoot at sight", so that all the hooligans and miscreants fomenting trouble can be eradicated from our country, once and for all. Negotiation and peace talks will not help us in any way. As long as Kashmir is in our possession, these pigs will not allow us to live in peace. Kashmir is an integral part of India whatsoever, and will remain to be so.

With malice toward none, I would like to express my sincere opinion. At the outset, violence and vandalism has to be nipped in the bud and such acts has to curbed with an iron hand. If the people don't desire peace to prevail in the valley, then the only option is "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". Only then can there be total peace and harmony in the region.

The culprit responsible is PAK itself and they are the ones who is instigating the youth of Kashmir to indulge in violence. It is unfortunate that a lot of Kashmiris living in our soil enjoying all the benefits from our government are openly supporting PAK and the militants. Such traitors and betrayers should be kicked out from India. Those taking law in their own hands, destroying public property, indulging in violence, etc., should be strictly dealt with. When people pelt stones at the security forces can they remain to be a mute spectator. Can anyone tolerate such nonsense? Tit for tat is the only solution. Shoot the rascals one by one. Such evil people do not deserve to exist in this world at all.

I once again congratulate our army and security forces for their bravery. Long live India!

    People,

Modi should allow all Kashmiris who don't want to live in India peacefully to migrate to Pakistan with respect....like in 1947...

After that if anybody throws stones and ask for Azadi...then use live bullets on them without mercy...instead pellets...

I think Mehbooba and Omar are likely to immigrate to Pakistan ...because their soul is in Pakistan...just body here in India...

Also we need to dismiss all State Police and bureaucracy and make new appointments....then only this non-sense will stop...Pak Fidayeen/terrorists will become jobless...

Modi or any other previous PM would've happily facilitated their migration, but the catch is,they want to take the land along with them! And do you think our neighbor is generous enough to accept these migrants sans land?

Why Kashmir only let communal mongers should be treated with same bullet.

    Mr.Guru,

Sir,‘Kashmiris are saddened and anguished because not a single bullet was fired at as massive [and violent] protest as the one launched by the Jats in Haryana and no one was killed. In the Gujjar protest in Rajasthan no one lost his life and no fire was shot at [by the police]. Most recently there was such a huge demonstration, regarding Cauvery river water, in Karnataka, Bangalore but not a single shot was fired. Why then bullets are fired in Kashmir, why at the upper part of the body and why even a six-year-old child is not spared?’

from a policeman to businessman, student, members of the civil society, journalist, members of political parties and government officials all told them that each individual in Kashmir has risen against the Indian Government. ‘The one in whose hands there are no stones, has a stone in his heart instead. This agitation has become a peoples’ movement exactly like the Quit India Movement of 1942 against the British rule. Or like Jayaprakash Narayan’s agitation in which the role of the people was more important than of the leader.’
‘Prime Minister, does India not need to understand this psyche? If Kashmiris are not with us, then what will we do with keeping the land of Kashmir with us?’

Entire valley is shut for 92 days.Food and medicine are not reaching the common man.If Though Jats,Patidar,Telengana,Cauvery agaitators has right to protest why not Kashmiris?

As long as there is democracy in J&K,Kashmir has the right which constitution guarantees.

It is BJP-PDP is complete failure in Kashmir.

It shows our future of India, if it continues like that, no doubt, our beloved country would be a another Palestine. Our east, west, north countries too wanted India to be a another Palestine. So everyone must work hard and wisely to bring down peace in Kashmir otherwise each and every citizen's must have to face all the difficulties. Hatreds never works, it will destroy whole nation.

Our security forces killing the children in Kashmir on daily basis Instead of killing militants & PAK Army. Is it helplessness of our army??? 12 or 8 year old children are terrorists??? Killing the children is solution for Kahmir problem? Shame on BJP govt, wherever they go, violence will start there.

Definitely children's are not terrorists. But the terrorists use the children's for pelting the stones etc. Out of 50 terrorists they include few children's on the group and use the children's as their shield. Military is firing against Terrorists not on the Children's. But Children become victims and use the chance to create more violence. So, the parents should take care of their children not to be involved on this act.

There is a complete failure of the BJP-PDP alliance in maintaining law and order in Kashmir Valley. BJP which says that its a deshbhakti party is supporting a desh drohi party PDP in Kashmir. For the sake of power BJP can go to any extent. PDP supports the separatists and terrorists of Pakistan. Chief Minister Mehooba Mufti is hesitant to call Afsal Guru and Wani a terrorists and BJP supports such a party like PDP in Kashmir. Let BJP come of the PDP alliance in Kashmir and impose President rule in Kashmir. Law and Order will come back automatically. BJPs dirty politics is causing problems all over India.

It easy to advice and difficult to practice. People and pelting stones on Military and we expect them to muted? People should understand before pelting. People should understand the hypocrisy of the separatists. Their children and doctors engineers and and studying in foreign countries. But they ask the poor people to fight for Ajadi. Whey their children are in America London etc. Why their children and not part of this Propaganda. Military and Govt has to act against the violence to stop increasing. We talk both the way. When violence increase "govt not Controlled the violence" If they try say why they use pellet guns. Let the protesters protest in peaceful manner then diffinetly no one will use the guns. In India there is lot of places protest will take place every were Military is not there. Other hand we have also need to think that this is boarder state of the enemy country and we have so many enemies inside the country who support our enemies.

At least 60 people sustained injuries in clashes that broke out across Kashmir after Friday prayers, even as police foiled the joint resistance leadership’s call for a march to UN office in Srinagar with curfew and full force, reports and witnesses said. A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured at Eidgah Srinagar after he was hit by pellets in the forces’ action and his condition was stated as critical at SK Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura.

The valley is shut for 92nd consecutive day in Kashmir. The unrest, which has claimed more than 84 lives and 6000 people.More than 400 people lost permanent eyesight.

The PM Modi government should remember it is in power in state and center. The law of gun turning more Kashmir's against government.

The same government should lenient approach during Jat agitation in Haryana which nearly Rs35000 crores loose and 20 deaths and scores unreported rapes. It was tolerant in Patidar agitation in poll bound Gujarat.

The diplomacy and gun law is completely failing in Kashmir.Former RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav deputation to Kashmir is turning it to killing field.

The valley is returning to normal during UPA is no became no go zone for rest of India.

    Mr.Guru,

Sir,In Haryana Jat agitators systematically targeted BJP MLA and MP asset. This resulted in Rs35000 crores losses to north states. No army is ordered to shoot at 12 years old.

Why the gun law is only applicable to Kashmir? Why Pellet guns(Shot guns)are used to repel which is banned in US and EU for crowd control?
PM Modi government want keep burning the issue of Kashmir. At the same time they using hyper nationalism mixing with communalism. This nothing but poll stratergy to consolidate voter in crucial states of UP,Punjab,Goa.
This outbound for common man's thinking.
The government is giving chance for Pakistan to speak in UN using human right violation.

If the approach is wrong policy fails. Here they don't have policy other than gun culture. For the PM Modi government diplomacy works with talks for Naga,Bodo insurgency who wanted seperat homeland why not Kashmir? If agitators burn government installation in in other part of India why it is not equated like terrorism?

SMR ...simple pellet guns are used on those who doesn't belong or to subscribe to particular ideology. It may be applicable to tribals who are fighting for their rights or for someone from Kashmir or may be it can be also used on people ,like it were used in Hashimpur massacre ...
Pellet gun will be silent on the streets when massacres like Gujarat take place ...
And also it remains silent when Jats ,gujjars do protest...
Common denominator is those who protest should subscribe to particular ideology to remain safe...It doesn't matter whether you rape or destroy crores of rupees...
And our bhakt brigade will say when can be pellet gun be used and when not and who are real patriot and who are not like beef eating Akhlak and his son

You still didn't answer my question, what was the kid doing in the streets when there is a curfew? Why did the kid pelted stones at Army?

Note: In Jat agitation as well there was death from police firing, Jat agitation didn't go for 90 days, it was only a week, but still there was death of those who pelted stones at public property..

Pellet guns where also used from 2004 and in 2012 the number of persons killed in Kashmir is more than 100.
