Shocking : 13-year-old girl dies after family puts her on 4-month fast to bring luck in business


Hyderabad, Oct 8 (India Today) : In a shocking incident a 13-year-old girl died after observing fast for 68 days in Hyderabad.

The Jain community girl, Kumari Aradhana was studying in class 10 in St. Francis school of the city. She was observing "chaturmas" fast to bring luck to the family as her father Laxmichand Sansadiya had suffered loss in jewelry business.

COMPLAINT FILED

It is alleged that the girl died due to ill health on October 2.

The Child Right Association raised an alarm on Friday after it lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy, seeking immediate action against the girl's parents.

DECISION TAKEN ON PRIEST'S ADVICE

In its complaint, Bal Hakkula Sangham said that a priest from Chennai had advised the couple to make their daughter observe fast for at least four months in order to get profits in business.

"During the meeting, the victim collapsed on the ground and slipped into coma. She was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead," said Anuradha Rao in her complaint to the police commissioner.

The Child Rights activist has demanded an inquiry in the incident and action against those responsible persons who "killed innocent child".
