Mangalore, Dec 24: Helplessness showed on the faces of newly elected representatives at an interactive session held at Bikarnakatte Government Model Higher Primary School here on Sunday December 23.

The programme held under the aegis of Dharmasthala Rural Development Self-helf Group and Utsahi Yuvaka Vrinda.

Bombarded with problems and questions from locals, the only answer the representatives could give was that their election was not yet recognised by the government and hence they could not resolve any of the problems the citizens were facing.

Several issues related to water supply, electricity and drainage facilities were raised by members of the public. Some people complained that Kadri area was not supplied with water regularly but the tax on water has been increased by three per cent.

They also urged the corporators to change the worn-out water supply pipes owing to which water gets wasted.

Speaking on the occasion, former MLA Krishna J Palemar alleged that the government has reduced the fund for drinking water project for the city from Rs 40 crore to Rs 30 crore. He also expressed his displeasure over the delay in recognition of the membership of the elected representatives by the government.

Among those present were corporators D K Ashok Kumar, Mariamma Thomas, Gretta Rebello and others.
