  • Koramangala residents plead for a decent road; BBMP offers little help

Road to hell: The lack of proper roads in 1st Main, 1st Block in Koramangala has angered the residents

Bangalore, Dec 23: Koramangala is not quite the upscale area you think it is. Ask the residents of 1st Main, 1st Block and they’ll tell you that some roads in their neighbourhood lead to injury and accidents.

“The main road on 1st Main was dug up five years ago for some sewage work. Since then, it has been left a mess. The rains make it impossible for us to walk or drive on this road,” said Dilip K, who owns a medical shop in Koramangala 1st Block.

The residents said they have been pleading with the BBMP authorities for five years for a decent road but nothing has been done.

Residents and owners of commercial establishments had submitted a petition to H D Kumaraswamy when he was chief minister.

“Now we don’t even know whom to approach given the current political crisis in the state. Everyone seems to have washed their hands off,” Dilip said.

Accidents too

Untimely rains, early this week, worsened the plight of the residents as the area has turned into a slushy pool. Children have slipped and fallen down, and motorists have skidded in the slush.

“It is impossible to ride a two-wheeler on the roads here. Even autos are not willing to come to this area,” said Amit Mishra, a software engineer, and a resident.

Tall promises

When MiD DAY contacted BBMP commissioner S Subramanya, he said, “I accept that the road has been neglected for a long time. A special team was supposed to take up the work. We delayed repairing the road because of the monsoon, but I will ensure that work starts soon.”  He also promised to repair and expand service roads in the area.
