6.8 magnitude quake rocks Fiji

Suva, Sep 25 (IANS): An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter Scale shook the Fiji archipelago on Sunday.

The local authorities did not report any loss of life or significant damage to property, EFE news reported.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre of the tremor, at a depth of 594 km, was located 100 km north of Ndoi island.

The quake was recorded 24 hours after another temblor of 6.3-magnitude struck the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines, which did not cause any damage to life or property.

The Philippines and Fiji sit on the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most highly-active seismic zones in the world that exposes the countries daily to quakes of varying intensity.
