Gujarat: Pregnant Dalit woman, family beaten up for not disposing cow carcass

Palanpur, Sep 25 (PTI) : A Dalit family, including a pregnant woman, was allegedly assaulted at Karja village in Gujarat's Banaskantha district after the members refused to dispose of a cow carcass, police said today. Six persons were arrested under the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, police added.

According to the FIR lodged by Nilesh Ranwasia, a group of around 10 people from Darbar community attacked his family including his pregnant wife Sangeeta last night after the family refused to dispose of the carcass.

Six persons including Sangeeta and two other women sustained injuries. While Sangeeta was admitted to Palanpur civil hospital, Nilesh and others who had minor injuries were discharged after first aid, police said.

Police immediately rushed to the village and within hours six accused were arrested, Banaskantha Superintendent of Police Neeraj Badgujar said. The arrested persons were identified as Batawarsinh Chauhan (26), Maknusinh Chauhan (21), Yogisinh Chauhan (25), Bavarsinh Chauhan (45), Dilvirsinh Chauhan (23) and Naredrasinh Chauhan (23).

As tension prevailed in the village, police tightened security and intensified patrolling, Badgujar said. "We have provided protection to the Dalit families in the village and are doing our best to maintain peace and harmony among various communities," he said.

Protests had roiled Gujarat recently after some Dalit youths were beaten up at Una by cow vigilantes. In the aftermath of the incident, the community pledged not to skin dead cows, a traditional occupation of a section of Dalits.

The story from the ground zero is different.
There was a long standing dispute between this dalith family and non-daliths about discarding the animal waste in the village, on the roads and near the school.
Last week two members were caught while dumping the waste near a common a village well. Meanwhile 10 to 15 daliths including women and this pregnant lady came and had a fight with other non-daliths. Later six of them went to hospital to get admitted, but five of them were not admitted because there were only scratches. Even there was a tussle in the hospital.

After all it is their mother. Why they require the Dalits.

Let the so called upper caste, who claim to have love for their so called mother, cow as their matha, let they do the last rites. Why they require Dalits to do it.

Shame on these so called protector of cow matha group, who are not willing to do the rites of their matha, who is dead but require dalits to do the same.

Modi government talks about beating Pakistan but here their chamchas are beating up dalits every now and then and 56" mouth is on mute mode. When it finally opens up belatedly only hot air comes out but no action against the offenders.
Modi has more sympathy for Baluchistan human rights violations but pays only lip service to the plight of the poor dalits when they get beaten up mercilessly in India.

It proves we do not have as much danger from China and Pakistan as we have from internal enemies like Gaurakshaks, RSS, Rama Sene, BD who value an animal life is more than fellow Indians life. Now, those who harp on internal enemies - external enemies, tell me who are the true internal enemies.

The inhuman and barbaric manner in which terror is let loose by the Gujarat government on dalits, minorities with no action whatsoever requires the Honble SC to take cognizance as the Central Government of the day is backing it full blast. The SC should direct the Central Govt to dismiss the Gujarat Government. All the MPs and MLAs of Opposition parties from all over India should march to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan and seek dismissal of this undemocratic and notorious government which is anti human and pro CARCASS of animals.

Establishment of Gau-Shaalas at taxpayers' cost, run them at tax payers' cost, probably paying salary too to Dalits who are appointed for burying cows here then ?

    Aniketh,

No problems if gau-shaalas are established, no problems if crores are spent to clean Ganga which if not manipulated by worshipers would have been Crystal clear, no problems if crores are given to temples' upkeep that pilgrims are using as bus-stops (apology for the vocabulary) - no problems at all !

Have you seen dirt gathered around churches/mosques that required the government to clean ? Did you see other animals like goat/chicken too are housed in Shaalas despite them giving milk/eggs for people ?

If cow is worshippable, what responsibility is the worshipper taking ? Milking her till she bears calf and driving her away when she is old ? Mother ? What sort of Mother is it that is driven out at old-age ?

Do not worry about the tax payer's money going for Goshaalas.
Huge sums of money from temples go to govt's treasury and none from churches.

    Shankar,

Foremost, Temples pay tax @ 5% whereas Churches pay @ 35%. Check Endowment Act if you are free, else you have no option but believe what I say.

You shouldn't be grudgeful for the temple collections are going as taxes and celebrate that part of it is for gau-shaalas. The government has given a better option - spend your income for charitable causes and attach the receipt while filing your returns - heard about it ? Lazy people contribute to temple hundi and think that their part of good work is done, not considering how much is stolen from temples.

Now, is that the justification to handing over the dead cow to a Dalit for burial ? Why ? Because you the human son is too busy ? Shouldn't the same be expected to be happening to human mother too some day then ? Because, both (the cow and biological) are mothers - you see ???

Percentage distribution is utterly wrong. the whole of temple collections goes to the govt. other donations by cheque goes to pool in fund, for the development of the temple.
Churches are totally free from this.
Please let me know the which state's endowment act you were referring to?

Cow is revered as Holy,Mother and God!
O.k. Why discard its dead body, that too by a Dalit and Woman?
Gow Rakshaks term Dalits as untouchables!
Why then they should touch Cow?
Why Gow Rakshaks themselves not carrying Cow's dead body to give respectful funeral?
    Gujarat has become model state!
Gandhiji's holy land has become Nathuram Godse's land.
Pregnant Dalit Women is beaten, forcing to dispose cow carcass.

Dear friend, Mr. Modi is the savior of the world economy. According to his deity worshippers, they are telling repeatedly that India will be rescuing the sinking world economy.

Let there be killing of the minorities and Dalits, that is not an issue for him his goal is to transform the world. See the world tours he has conducted in a very short span of time. According to Venkiah Naidu, " a special gift of God to India". How long this show will last? Moody-Morgan Stanley-World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are getting suspicious about the Indian economy already.

How come she becomes untouchable at once upon death ?? Are her sons who took the liberty to reach up to her private parts to make money, became at once higher in status when she is no more alive ?
