Brisbane : Mary Immaculate Community Centre celebrates Monthi Fest

Media Release

Brisbane, Sep 24: On Sunday September 11, Savio D’Souza and family organized a 'Monti Fest’ celebration at Mary Immaculate Community Centre, Annerley, through a traditional fellowship lunch for over 60 people. The celebration began at 12.00 pm with an opening prayer by Fr Andrew Wise. Flowers were showered on ‘Our Lady’s’ statue by a group of children while hymns to Mary were sung by all the members.

Since September 8 is also the day of the girl child, special cake cutting was organized for all the girls at the ceremony. This was followed by a prayer by one of the members who attended the ceremony in order to bless the occasion.

Soon after, lunch was served which consisted of traditional vegetarian dishes prepared by families who attended the function. The dishes served were Alsande, Channa Tendli, AluDento curry, Moong Sukka, Karrathem (Bitter Gourd), Daal Saar, Rice, Cucumber Salad (Karram), Sanna and everybody’s favorite ‘Vorn’.

After lunch there was a small dance session followed by a few individual singers.

The celebration came to a close at 3.30 pm. The organizers thanked all who supported the event and made the event a great success.

This was the first time Monti Fest was celebrated at Brisbane and is hoped to continue in the subsequent years.
