Sep 23 (Agencies): In a major security breach at the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi, a man carrying a bag, climbed over a perimeter wall and roamed around the runway area unnoticed for almost half an hour.
According to a Times of India report, the intrusion was finally detected when an alarm went off in the Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) as the man scaled the wall again to exit the airside.
The PIDS is a multi-layer system with CCTV cameras to capture even the slightest movement along the perimeter wall. A senior Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official has admitted that the breach was a serious security lapse from the PIDS reported TOI.
The CISF, tasked with guarding the airport has over 35 watchtowers and a patrolling track along the perimeter wall.
The intruder was identified as Sangram Singh from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh. He was handed over to the Delhi Police by airport security.
