India reacts strongly to Sharif's speech at UN

New York, Sep 22 (PTI): Strongly reacting to Pakistan Prime Minister's remarks at the UN, India today described them as non-factual and full of "threat bluster" and said glorification of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani by him at the world forum is an act of "self-incrimination" by Pakistan.

"We just heard a speech full of threat bluster and rising immaturity and complete disregard of facts," Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar said at a press conference at the India's permanent mission here after Sharif's address to the UN General Assembly.

He also criticised Sharif for glorifying Wani, who was killed in an encounter with security forces on July 8, and said India "will not succumb to blackmail tactics of the Pakistan Government that seems eager to use terrorism as policy".

"We heard the glorification of a terrorist. Wani is declared commander of Hizbul, widely acknowledged as a terror group. It is shocking that a leader of a nation can glorify a self-advertised terrorist at such a forum. This is self incrimination by Pakistan PM," Akbar said.

Rejecting Sharif's offer to India to enter into a serious and sustained dialogue for the peaceful resolution of all outstanding disputes, the minister said, "Talks and guns don't go together".

"Pakistan at this moment seems to be run by a war machine rather than a government. Pakistan wants dialogue while holding a terrorist gun in its hand," he said.

He also rejected Sharif's allegations against India with regard to the current unrest in Kashmir and said, "Kashmir occupation is by Pakistan occupation army. The world also knows that Pakistan has been indulged in ethnic cleansing of its own people," he said.

Vikas Swarup slams Wani's reference in Sharif's UN speech

"Pak PM Sharif at #UNGA glorifies Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani in UN's highest forum. Shows continued Pak attachment to terrorism," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

During his address to the UN General Assembly session today, Sharif raked up Kashmir issue and described Wani as a "young leader".

Pakistan Prime Minister said Wani, who was killed in an encounter with security forces on July 8, has "emerged as the symbol of the latest Kashmiri Intifada, a popular and peaceful freedom movement".

Sharif also claimed that he had gone the extra mile to offer "a dialogue to address all outstanding issues but India has posed unacceptable preconditions to engage in a dialogue."

Responding to Sharif's allegations, Swarup said India's only condition for talks is an end to terrorism. "PM Sharif at #UNGA says India poses unacceptable conditions to dialogue. India's only condition is an end to terrorism. This not acceptable," Swarup said.

If its not publicised, thats how it should be. International relations do not work on chest thumping. It works by not claiming the deeds/misdeeds.. Like how Pakistan is doing. they do so many things against India and act as if they know nothing about it. We need to handle these matters very maturely. Do more, talk less & act innocent particularly with country like India.

First destroy few of their terrorist training bases inside line of control.
I followed the full debate on Times now last evening and even Nawaz Sharif's written speech. (must have been prepared before the Uri attack). Pakistan has been giving us mild shocks to come to terms thinking that India would melt-down and agree to their terms.
The Chiefs of our armed forces (Army, Navy & Air-force) need to sit with PM and Defense minister and work out a strategy to take pre-emptive air ride. We have already exhibited our patience by bending down up to knee level and now time has come to rise up and show India’s capabilities also. It is not full- fledged war but our impending might!

It really hurts when we lose precious lives of our brave soldiers.Give land or a house/apartment in J &K to all soldier families who sacrificed for the country to make it a cosmopolitan state so that security of the J&k will improve and all the problems will Be solved. We should not blame any Government but it is quite visible that there was hidden agenda by old government to keep J&K issue burning to divert the minds of the people.

It's high time India stop writing and receiving love letters from this failed state, Apart from the economic Blockade, this hub and terrorist state should be isolated at all international level, once done they will die their own death at their own hands, At this part of time we all stand united in solidarity with the soldiers of our country who have given their life protecting our borders.. We are united Indians and will be till our death..
