Mangalore, Dec 16: In an unfortunate incident, a nine-year-old child, who had been critically injured while attempting to cross a railway track, succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital here.

The child Afsana, the daughter of a fisherman Abdul Rahman, was attempting to cross the railways tracks by crawling under a goods train on December 8th at the railway station near Manjeshwar, when the train started to move.

Since the child did not have sufficient time to protect herself, her right leg was caught under the wheels of the moving train and crushed. She was quickly rescued by the local people and admitted to a nearby hospital.

Since her injuries were serious, the child was rushed to a city private hospital.  The doctors here had no other option but to amputate her right leg, in order to save her life. After a few days of treatment Afsana was discharged from the hospital.

However, Afsana’s condition deteriorated and became worse on Thursday, Dec 14. So she was once again admitted to a hospital but was unable to survive and breathed her last in the early hours of Friday, Dec 15.
