Mangalore Dec 15: Chitra Publications, the publishers of the well-known daily newspaper “Karavali Ale” here, has sought protection for the press.

In a letter dispatched to Shankar Bidari, the Additional Director-General of Police (DGP - Intelligence), the president of Chitra publications B V Seetharam is reported to have informed Bidari about his apprehension about an imminent attack on the press by the builders' lobby and the transport lobby. According to him, this lobby seems to be unhappy about the articles published against them in the daily.

Further, he has complained that even in the past the said two lobbies and communal elements had taken the law into their own hands and attacked the press. He therefore, requested posting of an armed guard round-the-clock at the office premises of the press.

It may be recalled that more than a year back some miscreants had attacked the place housing the press and destroyed furniture and machinery there. Moreover, three months back bundles of the newspaper were set on fire near B C Road as well.
