Three fishermen kidnapped in Malaysia

Bangkok, Sep 11 (IANS): Three fishermen were abducted from a trawler off the coast of the Malaysian state of Sabah by a group of armed men, the media reported on Sunday

The group of seven assailants, suspected to be members of the Philippine terrorist organisation Abu Sayyaf, kidnapped three of the eleven crew members of the boat and fled towards the Tawi-Tawi archipelago in southern Philippines.

The incident took place near a tourist complex in Semporna late on Saturday and was reported to Malaysian authorities around midnight by the owner of the trawler, EFE news reported.

The abduction was executed two days after the Eastern Sabah Security Command carried out a massive operation to curb cross-border smuggling.
