Kapil Sharma's tweet to PM sparks controversy

Fadnavis swings into action after comedian's bribe tweet

Mumbai, Sep 10 (DHNS): Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma’s tweet to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on being asked bribe by Mumbai civic officials snowballed into a major political controversy on Friday.

It now appears that the TV host himself is on the wrong side of law. Political parties, including the BJP, Shiv Sena and MNS, gunned for the 35-year-old actor even as the opposition Congress and NCP, which defended him early in the day, later targeted the ruling alliance for corruption in the civic body.

In a two- tweets, the actor targeted Modi, the Maharashtra government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). “I am paying 15 cr Income Tax from last 5 year n still I have to pay 5 lakhs bribe to BMC office for making my office…yeh hain aapke achhe din? @narendramodi,” Sharma tweeted.

Soon, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted back and announced a probe and also asked Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta to look into the issue. “Kapilbhai pls provide all info. Have directed MC, BMC to take strictest action. We will not spare the culprit. @KapilSharmaK9 @narendramodi,” Fadnavis posted on Twitter.

Pressure on actor

Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray’s son and Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray also mounted pressure on the actor. “@KapilSharmaK9 thank you for being an alert Mumbaikar. Would request you to assist Mayor and the MC to help in the drive against corruption,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, BMC’s Chief Engineer (Vigilance) Manohar Pawar sent a letter to Sharma seeking information from his side and assured that the disclosure would be kept confidential.

Illegal construction

Later, it came to light that an unauthorised construction by the actor on his property was demolished by the BMC on August 4. The actor was issued a stop work notice and a copy was also marked to the Versova Police station.

When reports of violation came to light, Kapil tweeted: “I just voiced my concern on the corruption I faced with certain individuals..Its no blame on any political party be it BJP, MNS or Shiv Sena”.

A mediocre comedian pays 15cr tax, then his accche din has arrived long back... LOL

There is a way to escalate thigns.. do we tag CM and PM if cooking gas did not arrive on time or bathroom fitting broken? The man is overactiig to show off the richness is quite evident. it is also evident how a talented man is turning boring week after week. I loved watching Kapil in the prev avtars, but for last 1 year I feel so annoying.

Anyways, the man who demanded be arrested soon. and the people who have habit to tag PM for their gastric problems too get matured

Mr.Modi is genuinely sincere to the Nation. He really does what a prime minister had to do for the nation. There is no doubt about that. We needed this person as a CEO of our country twenty years earlier..! Sonia who could not feel the pulse of the nation and her son who comes as a special appearance in Indian politics with out brains and responsibility is a big Zero..
But Modi can not control BMC who are corrupt to the core. Shiv sena also runs the mafia...

Corrupt government departments knows how to fix a individual who go against them. If BMC checks all the documents of Mumbai residents they will find more than 50% staying illegally in the City. They just favour the citizens by not checking the records....! Its a big Mafia sir.

Think before commenting against Modi...Indians are brain washed in such a manner that they cannot take anything against Modi...I had seen Kapil pulling Manmohan Singh's leg but that was taken as comedy but we Indians cannot take anything against Modi....I can see some facebook posting's saying Kapil has corrupt...No one in India is allowed to speak against Modi or else ready to be labelled as Anti-National, Mulla, Paki, Corrupt, Pappu, Amul Baby, etc etc...

Totally agree. Blind Bhakts are using their IT literacy and IT power to bash all those who raises voice against BJP or MODI. They have hijacked Social Networking tools.

Never ever in the history of India such a vast usage of IT resources been used for political party or figure. Most of RSS and other Blind Bhakts are IT savvy and working across the globe in IT companies and are cleverly using IT as it's tool for their political benefits.

Kapil Sharma should have named the official and demanded action. The last part of the section was unwarranted for, particularly when the official involved is not even a central government employee.
The question of un-authorised construction is also valid. Why would someone with about 50 crore income (he paid 15 crore tax right?) construct an illegal structure when he can afford to set up a proper office?

Corruption is deep rooted in Indian administration and police system, There are still many officers whose main job is minting money. Kapil Sharma's controversial tweet was unwarranted and will put him in trouble as he himself paid if it is real, and more comedy is expected

Comedians, cartoonists and all generally do not spare anyone. Statement shouldn't be viewed as political. Shouldn't become hyper about it.
And the fact is truly there is lot of corruption going unabated. Road contracts is another area everyone knows!
Eminent citizens should voice it to Govt.
Country head gets compliments as well as criticism since they are public figures, it's part of their life.
Leaders and their followers should have ability to take criticism sportingly.
In dictators world, criticism not allowed, whereas is democracy constructive criticism encouraged.

You think this is constructive one ?
If he was really serious he should have given the name or at least the post of the person who demanded bribe
Just to cover his in authorized construction he is diverting the issue
As you said the corruption is gift of chor party who ruled right from 1947.

    Dear Rathan,
Unauthorized constructions, inspections, threats and demanding bribe to regularize are not new issues.
Municipality being Govt body, should be a role model, never seek bribe, contrary should have fined him for unauthorized construction as a deterrent action!
He shouldn't be singled out. All unauthorized constructions should be earmarked, issued notices and systematically demolished. Serious ones first and the rest thereafter.
For normal citizens, whether it's BJP or INC doesn't matter, rule of the law should prevail.

it is true that corruption among the utive is on an increase and the States must take immediate steps to curb it. It is also true that, just to be in power, the previous Govt at the Centre allowed its ministers to garner huge amounts in corruption at the Legislatue level which was a hopeless situation for democracy. At least we are happy that this situation has improved from worse
