Mangalore: Additional Oil Jetty Essential to handle Crude Oil, POL

Mangalore, Dec 13: In order to handle crude and POL (Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants) together, an additional oil jetty should be constructed immediately, a technical paper presented at the three-day Indian National Conference on Harbour an Ocean Engineering recommended.

The conference was jointly organized by NMPT and NIT-K. It began on Wednesday December 12 at NIT-K, Suratkal near here.

The paper presented by Kiran G Shirlal, assistant professor, department of applied mechanics and Hydraulics, NIT-K and Sumana K N, an M Tech student at NIT-K tiled “Infrastructure planning of New Mangalore Port for oil dock arm up to 2021-22.”

They said that the jetty should be built in the first phase of infrastructure development which is up to 2021-22. They also discussed about various infrastructural development to be carried in the second ad third phase.

 Discussing about the imports and exports of cargo at the port, they said that between 2002 and 06 it was observed that the total the two-thirds imports were from West Asia.

Various papers on different subjects were presented on this day.
