Woman in UP denied vehicle for daughter's body

Meerut, Sep 4 (PTI) : In yet another heart-rending incident, a woman ran from one hospital to another with her daughter's body and was forced to spend a night outside the emergency wing of the district hospital with the dead child after ambulance drivers allegedly refused to take them to their village as it was in another district.

It comes just days after the disturbing incident reflecting hospital apathy in Kanpur, where a man was allegedly made to take his ailing son on his shoulders from one department to another by the doctors and the child finally died.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Gulnad, a resident of Baghpat district, was suffering from a viral infection and undergoing treatment at P L Sharma government hospital but on Thursday night, her condition deteriorated and doctors referred her to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College (LLRMC) Hospital here.

Her mother Imrana took her to the LLRMC hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Imrana alleged that for two hours she pleaded with the hospital ambulance driver to take the body to her village Gauripur but he refused, saying he is not allowed to travel to other districts.

Expecting help from district hospital authorities, Imrana took the body to the district hospital in a private ambulance after paying Rs 200 but there also she was denied ambulance service.

Imrana claimed that she requested the doctors at the hospital for hours to get ambulance service and when she contacted the hospital ambulance driver, he refused to go to her village stating that it is in another district while private ambulances demanded Rs 2,500 for the journey which she did not have.

According to Imrana, she, with her daughter's body on her lap, spent the night outside the emergency wing of the hospital.

The next morning, some people present there chipped in and hired a private ambulance to take the body to her village.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate, Meerut, Jagatraj Tripathi said, "This incident has not come to my notice yet. But I will order an investigation into it.

"Whoever is found guilty will be punished. I'll ask the chief medical officer, the additional director that these type of incidents should not happen," he added.

In similar shocking incidents in Odisha, a man was forced to carry his dead wife on shoulder after being denied a hearse by the hospital authorities while another had to walk miles carrying his seven-year-old daughter's body as the ambulance transporting them allegedly left them midway.

Do not accuse the ambulance drivers. They are bound by boundaries, they can not go to other districts.
Each district has a district hospital. You will go to the 'district hospital' of other district at your risk.

Raju, Udupi. First of you must be a blind Bhakth. I read the news and comment. My question was clear. Your beloved PM has enough money to donate to every time he visit any third world country BUT begs when he visit developed country. he had no problem to spend tax payers money for his world tour but forgot that 15 lacs and black money. Coming back to point, if a PM of another far way country (Bahrain) can help out a person in Orissa, why can't our OWN PM?? can you answer that??

Taking home dead bodies is becoming a major hurdle now a days. This could be solved through collaboration among hospital ambulances and a free passage need to be given to the dead to avoid further humiliation to the bereaved family members.

    So true Juliana..

Better were the days when births took place at home so were deaths. Just go to the Panchayat and give the information of birth/death.

No need to beg for ambulance, no need to bring home the remains.

We are moving backwards to stone age, not forward !

No use blaming any govt. Attitude of every individual should change. Either we are law abiding citizens or honest followers of any religion. Humanity should prevail, or else we are worst than animals.

Arm, KSA,: Never equate these type of people to animals, call them anything else. They are unfit to be called human beings and live in this world.

Animals always have feelings and show their feelings and mourn when their near and dear ones are lost.

I had seen two cute pupies playing with their mother on the side of the road, in front of the University College, Mangalore(Old name Government College, Hampankatta, Mangalore) when a speeding city bus killed one of the puppy. The Mother and the other puppy were mourning in front of the killed puppy. I was waiting for the traffic signal on the other side of the road and people who had seen this were feeling so sorry for this.
In an another incident, our house dog got killed under the City Bus, right in front of our gate but our other dog did not move and kept watch over the dead body till it was burried.

So do not compare these monster Human beings to animals. Animals have better sense and no match for such human beings. Jai Hind.

No matter which government comes India will never improve in terms of social development, social justice, cleanliness and attitude towards vulnerable.
China does it with iron rule but not in democratic India where even educated behave like 'who cares'

Government of India has lot money to spend on foreign tours for PM with his delegation, they spend crores of rupees, and our PM don't even time to look in to this matters coz the death is of a poor human being. Government bans cow slaughter but no action or punishment on rape cases or in human heart rending incidents. Within a fortnight this is fifth incident and Government says inquiry has been ordered but results Zero. If same would have been happened with their family members then there would have been immediate action of suspension and jail. This is India, any thing u do, for the action it will take years together...

These pathetic news of refusing respectful transport of the dead, so many cases of rape - do you think they are happening just these days ? No ! They have been happening for ages and we get to know of so many of them now because of the media.

Because the media is extended to the remotest areas, we get to know of these discrimination and abuse. Many of us have come to the stage of being called 'educated' but we still remain in a stage that we don't know to behave !

    Shame on us !

It is unbelievable but true. Poor people have no value or respect in every way. Action should be taken against the hospital for refusing service of an ambulance to take a dead body of a child.

Third similar incident in a row and these are the issues that undermine our image and not some British MP's sexual escapades just because he was of Indian origin.
