Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (NR)

Mangalore Dec 6: EDS Learning and Leadership Academy (ELLA) belonging to MphasiS in the city announced here on Wednesday December 5 that it has successfully completed training of more than one thousand graduates as of November 2007. The Academy focuses on training fresh engineering graduates for a career in the Information Technology (IT) industry with an emphasis on real-life case studies and scenarios. As a result, fresh graduates from the Academy are immediately employable at Mphasis, informs a news release from MphasiS, here on Wednesday December 5.

The news release giving detailed information states that the Academy was developed to meet the increasing need for a technically qualified and professionally sound employee base at MphasiS, while at the same time, to create a talent pool with skill mixes that can have quick impact on business. Apart from the technical training, students are tutored with the objective of grooming them with soft skills to make them ready for any customer interface roles that they may move into.
MphasiS realizes the importance of developing leaders and providing them with an opportunity to hone their skills to move into larger roles with more responsibilities. The academy runs many leadership programs for its executives to sustain their growth within the organization, to develop a robust pool of talent and to retain this talent for the future development of the organization, the release adds.

Speaking on the occasion, Jerry Rao chairman of MphasiS said, “We are extremely proud to cross yet another milestone in the history of MphasiS. ELLA is a true representation of MphasiS’ commitment to the development of the IT industry in the country. Trained human resource, as we are all aware, is a critical need of the industry. ELLA is a facility established primarily to cater to this need as well as to ensure that trained human talent is readily available to cater to MphasiS’ growing volume of business.”

“Mangalore was chosen as a strategic location for this academy due to a variety of reasons – large talent pool, strategic location in the south, geographic connectivity, superior infrastructure, etc. The location of the ELLA facility in TechBay was an obvious choice for the setting up of this academy,” added Deepak Patel, managing director, MphasiS.

The press release further goes on to inform that the academy was established in February 2007 and hires engineering graduates with 0-18 months of experience. These students, after training, are then deployed to MphasiS’ delivery centres at various locations in the country. The core ELLA advisory board includes representatives from the MphasiS senior management team who review the progress and recommend future activities to ensure that the academy provides up-to-date and relevant real-life training.

Beginning 2008, MphasiS will focus on training the engineering graduates for the ITO business and also plans to expand the services to include training for experienced engineers to enhance their knowledge and skills, adds the release.
