Mangalore, Dec 4: A total of 1391 tickets have been booked for the most awaited Mangalore - Bangalore passenger train which would be flagged-off on Saturday, December 8. A total of 744 passengers out of 1391 have booked ticket to travel in the inaugural train which leaves for Bangalore from Mangalore.

A total of 585 persons have booked to travel in sleeper coach. Meanwhile, a total of 647 tickets have been booked to travel from Bangalore to Mangalore on December 8. A total of 523 persons have booked to travel in sleeper coach; among them 63 for AC 3 tier and 61 for AC 2 tier.

The train will have 277 sleeper berths, 41 AC 3 tier, 30 AC 2 tier berths and one compartment has been christened as ‘Yashwanthpur Express’.

However, the passengers are not happy over the train speed. As per the existing railway schedule, the train would take at least 12 hours to reach the state capital. Moreover, the buses which travel between Mangalore and Bangalore take 8 to 9 hours now, despite of the Shiradi Ghat stretch of NH 48 lies in pathetic condition. It seems the train takes more time.

Any how, the Mangaloreans are happy that the passenger train services will commence between Mangalore and Bangalore nearly after one and half decade.

I travel up and down atleast twice a month. The busses take a minimum of 12 hours. It even takes 16 hours 40% of the times with very limited stops. Passengers who are unwell, old and pregnant have a very difficult time managing with this travel. Thank God for the train ! Its a blessing.
