Another bomb found in Manipur after Friday blast

Imphal, Aug 6 (IANS): A powerful bomb weighing 3.5 kg was recovered here on Saturday morning near the place where an explosion on Friday injured one CRPF trooper and a two-year-old girl.

The bomb, which has since been defused, was found in a plant pot about five metres away from the sentry post of the Press Information Bureau (Defence wing), about 20 metres away from Friday's blast site.

The site is also very close to the temporary marketplace housing women vendors from Imphal's iconic Mothers' Market which was destroyed in the January 4 earthquake.

About 2000 vendors staged a sit-in protest against the security risk posed by such bombs.

The police linked such incidents to the subversive activities that various insurgents groups in Manipur attempt to carry out ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

The police has been conducting frisking operations at different places in the run-up to August 15.
