  • Patterned on Dubai’s Super Saturday, ace horses will compete in three races sponsored by the Poonawalla Stud Farm

Mumbai, Nov 25: The best thoroughbreds of the country will come together on the second day of the Mumbai meeting to be held at the Mahalaxmi Race Course on Sunday.

Drawing from the lines of Dubai racing centre, the Super Sunday will witness ace horses — Southern Empire, Secret Memories, Haunting Memories and Bourbon King — take part in three races sponsored by the Poonawalla Stud Farm.
Patterned on Dubai’s Super Saturday, the racing carnival will showcase the best thoroughbreds in the country in commemoration of wonder horse Mystical.

Vivek Jain, on behalf of the RWITC said: “It’s an innovative concept where the focus is on the equines, as it should be. The best of our racing talent will be on display.”

The day was ideated by Zavaray Poonawalla whose stud farm has sponsored three races - a sprinters’, mile and stayers’ race- all named after Mystical. Many of the runners will use the races as a trial before being exported to Dubai in an attempt to emulate what Mystical did.

Some of the champions on display would be the great Southern Empire, the champion sprinter Haunting Memories and champion miler, Secret Memory.

To add a new fizz to the event, a special prize of a free trip and stay in Dubai to witness one of the Dubai Carnival race days is also being planned.

The three races which are being sponsored by Poonawalla Stud Farm are, The Mystical International Sprinters Trophy, The Mystical Stayers’ Trophy and the Mystical Super Mile Trophy with the Ardeshir Trophy (Grade II).

This is to commemorate the back-to-back victories of India’s Equine, Mystical which made history at last year’s Dubai International Carnival.

The racing got a boost after Caesars Palace from Las Vegas, the first foreign sponsor, made inroads into the Indian racing on the first day of the Mumbai meeting on November 18.

“Such events will definitely pep up the sport,” said Vivek, who has been successful in arranging sponsors for all the races to be held on Sunday.
