Cyclist Cummings wins Tour de France Stage 7

Lac de Payolle (France), July 9 (IANS): British cyclist Steve Cummings won Stage 7 of the 2016 Tour de France, a 162.5 kilometre (101 mile) run from L'Isle-Jourdain to Lac de Payolle.

Cummings, who rides for Dimension Data, had led since the final climb on Friday and crossed the line in three hours 51 minutes and 58 seconds to secure his second ever Tour de France stage win, reports Efe.

South African, Daryl Impey (Orica-Bikeexchange) came in second, 0:01:05 behind the winner while Spaniard Dani Navarro (Cofidis) came third.

Belgian, Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing Team) retains the yellow jersey as overall leader and extended his lead to 0:06:36.

Second and third place in the overall individual time classification remained unchanged from Stage 6, with Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Etixx-Quick Step) and Spaniard, Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) chasing the top spot respectively.

Briton, Mark Cavendish failed to add to Thursday's win, his 29th individual stage win, which would bring him even closer to Belgian cycling legend Eddy Marckx's all time Tour record of 34.

Saturday's Stage 8 of the Tour consists of a mountainous 184 km (114 mile) run from Pau to Bagneres-de-Luchon.
