RBI Web Site to Catch'em Young

Business Line

Mumbai, Nov 16: The Reserve Bank of India has launched a financial education web site. The web site is aimed at teaching the basics of banking, finance and central banking to children of different age groups. It will soon also have information that would be useful to other target groups such as women, rural and urban poor, defence personnel and senior citizens, said an RBI press release.

Comic book format

To explain the complexities of banking, finance and central banking in a simple and interesting way, the RBI has used the ‘comic book’ format for children.

It has created two special characters for this purpose - ‘Raju’ who learns about banking and ‘Money Kumar’ who explains subjects such as monetary policy, bank regulations and currency notes.

There are two comic books available on this site - ‘Raju and the Money Tree’ explains basic banking and ‘Money Kumar and Monetary Policy!’ explains the role and relevance of the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy for the common person.

It can be accessed at www.rbi.org.in/financial education.
