Police Initiates Action for Violating Cracker Bursting Limits

Mumbai, Nov 11: Action has been initiated against 310 persons across the metropolis for bursting firecrackers beyond permissible time limits, since the beginning of the Diwali festivities in the last 29 hours, police said on Saturday November 10.

"There are guidelines set for not bursting crackers between 10 pm and 6 am next morning, and we had repeatedly issued warnings to implement them," said a senior police officer.

Similarly, six others were booked for use of loudspeakers beyond the permissible limits since yesterday, he said.

Violators were let off only after they had deposited between Rs 1,200 and Rs 5,000. All of them will be produced in courts which can impose fines on them, he said.

Over 100 of those booked were caught for allegedly bursting crackers between 0000 and 0500 hours today itself, he said, adding a majority of the cases are being registered in the central region which comprises of residential pockets like Dadar, Parel and Lalbaug.

City police plans to continue with the action through the weekend till the end of the festivities.
