US House sit-in telecast on Periscope, Facebook Live

New York, Jun 23 (IANS): Since US-based cable TV network C-SPAN had no control over the US House TV cameras, they used live video streaming app Periscope and Facebook Live to telecast the Democrats' protest sit-in, the media reported on Thursday.

Democrats were in the middle of a sit-in protest on the floor of the US House of Representatives to force gun control vote but C-SPAN is not allowed to turn its TV cameras on to film it.

Technology came to their rescue and they started broadcasting live video from the floor of the House -- first using Periscope footage from Representative Scott Peters, a Democrat from California, and later using Facebook Live footage from an unnamed source, technology website The Verge reported.

Peters and other Democrats want their protest to be seen so live-streaming apps came to help not only for the Democrats but also for the cable TV company.

"Well it is the joy of technology, really. It's frozen up a little bit," a C-SPAN anchor was quoted as saying during one break from the footage.

Democrats are protesting in response to the recent attack in Orlando that left 49 people killed and 53 injured.
