New Delhi, Jun 21 (IE) : Accusing Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Maken of using “derogatory language” against him, Congress worker Dharampal Natkhat Monday lodged a police complaint against the leader at Mandir Marg police station.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Dharampal said he had met party vice-president Rahul Gandhi Sunday to inform him about the death of his son in December last year, and expressed disappointment that Maken did not pay him a visit. He said Rahul then asked Maken to visit his house.

According to Dharampal, post the meeting at the Congress headquarters, Maken called to inquire about his son’s demise and “possibly schedule a meeting at my house the next day”.

“He had been informed of my son’s death but did not want to recall it. During the conversation, I told him he should drink less, and may be then he would remember things. He then used foul language and misbehaved with me,” he alleged.

While Dharampal claimed he records all calls, as he feared a “threat to his life”, Maken dismissed the allegation and claimed the voice clip was doctored. The Congress leader tweeted, “In 34 yrs of my varied&unblemished political career- I’ve conducted my public life with dignity &my workers hold a special place in my heart. None can allege that I ever used foul language.”

Dharampal met party president Sonia Gandhi Monday and informed her of the episode. “I met Mrs Gandhi and informed her of Maken’s conduct. She listened to the recording as well,” he said, adding that Gandhi’s office assured him of an inquiry into the incident.

“I have been associated with the party since 1979. I run a tent and catering business and I have never contested an election at any level,” said Dharampal.

He added that he was miffed that having “served” the party for so long, the Pradesh chief did not deem it fit to visit his bereaved family.
