Putin to kick-off volunteer recruitment campaign for 2018 World Cup


Moscow, Jun 1 (IANS): Russian President Vladimir Putin will launch a volunteer recruitment campaign for the 2018 football World Cup, the Kremlin press service said on Wednesday.

"On June 1 the President will participate in the ceremony of launching the volunteer program for the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia - one of the main events of the preparation for the championship and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup," press service said.

As part of the volunteer program it was planned to involve more than 5,000 volunteers for the 2017 Confederations Cup and 15,000 activists will participate in the organisation of the 2018 World Cup.

The recruitment process will end in late 2016. Those wishing to become volunteers of the 2018 World Cup and the 2017 Confederations Cup will be able to apply at ru.fifa.com/volunteers after the ceremony dedicated to the start of the recruitment program will be held in Moscow on June 1.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held from June 14 to July 15, 2018 at 12 stadiums in 11 host cities in Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Sochi, Kaliningrad, Ekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd and Samara.
