Golfer Lahiri registers season's first top-10 in PGA Tour

Fort Worth (US), May 30 (IANS): Star Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri registered his first top-10 position of the ongoing season on the PGA Tour after finishing joint sixth at the Dean & Deluca Invitational here.

The 28-year-old produced a superb front nine for a score of 68 in the final round to finish with a total of nine-under 271 at the Colonial Country Club on Sunday.

With this performance, Lahiri not only bettered his previous best of tied 21st at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia, which is PGA Tour's only stop in Asia but has also moved to 88th on the FedEx Cup table.

The Bangalore-based golfer's sole top-10 this season, came in the European/Asian Tour event, the Hero Indian Open, where he finished second.

Lahiri, who produced rounds of 65, 70, 68, 68 this week, had three birdies and no bogeys in his front nine and then added two more on 10th and 11th.

At one stage at 12-under, he rose to 12-under and was a mere two shots behind the then leader, Harris English.

Lahiri birdied the second, fifth, seventh, 10th and 11th holes. Unfortunately, one bad swing on the 15th, which saw him go into the water with the second shot, forced him to take a penalty. He was then faced with a 15-footer for a bogey but he missed that and ended with a double.

Local favourite Jordan Spieth (65) clinched the title after ending with 17-under which is three clear of second-placed English (68).
