Mamata to attend Mother Teresa's canonisation

Kolkata, May 22 (IANS) : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said she will attend the canonisation of Mother Teresa in Vatican on September 4.

Banerjee's decision followed an invitation extended to her by the Mother's Catholic congregation Missionaries of Charity Superior General Sister Prema earlier in the day.

"I have accepted Sr Prema's invitation to be present at the canonisation of blessed Mother Teresa in Rome on 4 Sep," Banerjee said in a tweet.

The chief minister will be accompanied by Sister Prema, Calcutta Archdiocese Archbishop Thomas D'Souza and several other dignitaries and individuals connected to the MoC global headquarters Mother House here.

Monica Besra, a tribal woman from West Bengal's South Dinajpur district, whose 'miracle' cure was instrumental in Mother's beatification, is also expected to accompany the delegation to the Vatican.

Pope Francis announced in March that the Mother would be canonised on September 4, the eve of her 19th death anniversary.

Known across the world as the Mother, Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work with the poor, sick, old and lonely in the slums of Kolkata.

She died on September 5, 1997, and was beatified just six years later by Pope John Paul II on October 19, 2003.

Whatever you do to the least of my brother that you do unto me.India is a great country and 99% Indians are broad minded and extremely good and Didi the popular Chief Minister of WB is one. Secularism is the cornerstone of Indian Democracy. Anyway who tries to tamper with the basic principle of our constitution will be doomed sooner than later. As long as the state remains secular which means equal respect for all faiths the nation will prosper and progress.

I agree with you word by word.

There are 'n' number of problems in India.

Instead of solving and helping them, Modi was busy only in international tours since 2014

Thank God you have not mentioned the name of the concerned person.

Now at least we can take it anybody in general who prefers going on tours instead of concentrating on welfare at home.

Mamta represents West Bengal state like no other , which was also the home turf of Mother Teresa.

Mamta was inspired by Mother Teresa from her very young age as well.

She is the right choice instead of Feku who is forcing himself to attend the ceremony who also hates Christians so much in the first place.

I have great respect for the emerging political star of India,
    Ms. Mamata Banerjee.

When she was the Minister of Railway, she was very gracious to put the big posters of both Mother Teresa and Swami Vivekananda which was watched by millions of passengers.

Now, she is getting another divine blessing to participate at the canonization of Mother Teresa in Vatican. Hope and pray that she will meet Pope Francis personally to have his blessings.
