Extradition of Nicaraguan football federation's ex-head to US upheld

Geneva, May 10 (IANS): The Swiss Federal Court has upheld the extradition of Julio Rocha, former president of the Nicaraguan football federation, to the United States after he was detained for about one year on charges related to the global football corruption scandal.

The Swiss court rejected on Monday the appeal filed by Rocha's defence against the extradition to US authorities, reports Efe.

Rocha had requested that the charges be investigated and tried in Nicaragua.

He is accused of charges such as taking marketing rights-related bribes from a US company in 2011, when he was chairing the Nicaraguan federation.
