6.7 lakh saplings to be planted in Agra

Agra, May 1 (IANS): A total of 6.7 lakh saplings are to be planted on a single day in the Taj city in July.

Alarmed by reports of rising deforestation due to urbanization, the Uttar Pradesh government has stepped up efforts to green all barren patches.

The forest department has been told to ensure that the saplings planted are taken care of.

Agra District Magistrate Pankaj Kumar said the target for Agra district had been fixed at 670,000 saplings. This will be a new record for one day.
