Two yrs of Modi govt: Survey says nearly half feel 'no change'

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI): With the Modi government close to completing its two years in office, a new survey today said nearly half of the respondents (49 per cent) feel "no change" in their living standards while another 15 per cent feel the situation has actually worsened.

The survey, conducted by the Centre for Media Studies (CMS), further claimed that "a significant percentage (43 per cent) feels that poor people are not benefitting from programmes and schemes under the Modi government."

At the same time, the 'performance appraisal' of the two years of the Modi government also found that Narendra Modi's performance as Prime Minister was being liked by a vast majority (62 per cent) and as many as 70 per cent wanted him to continue as Prime Minister beyond the first five years.

The survey, of around 4,000 respondents across rural and urban areas of 15 states, still observed that less than one third feel the Prime Minister has fulfilled promises while around 48 per cent felt the promises have been met partially.

"On whether living and life of people is any better today than two years ago, nearly half (49 per cent) feel 'no change' in scenario while 15 per cent feel that situation or conditions has worsened," the survey said.

Announcing the survey results at a press conference here, former Secretary General of Lok Sabha Subhash C Kashyap said the personal image of the Prime Minister remains very bright and his performance is being liked by a majority.

Modi's efforts to improve India's stand globally as well as improving administration at home got a thumbs up from a majority in the survey.

"While NDA government's initiatives are generally appreciated, concern for increasing prices and unemployment at grass root continues," CMS Director General P N Vasanti said.

Among major failures of the Union government, inflation was cited by 32 per cent of the respondents, followed by inability to provide employment (29 per cent) and inability to bring much talked about black money (26 per cent) -- one of the key promises made in the 2014 election manifesto.

The major achievements cited in the survey included Jan Dhan Yojna (36 per cent), Swachh Bharat Mission (32 per cent) and efforts to bring foreign direct investment (23 per cent).

In the assessment of individual union ministries, Railways scored the best, followed by Finance and External Affairs Ministries.

The low-performing ministries included Labour and Employment, Law, Rural Development, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Social Justice and Empowerment.

The ranking of the Union ministers was topped by Sushma Swaraj, followed by Rajnath Singh, Suresh Prabhu, Manohar Parrikar and Arun Jaitley in the top five.

The low-ranked ministers in the survey were Ram Vilas Paswan, Bandaru Dattatreya, Radha Mohan Singh, J P Nadda and Prakash Javadekar.

"Important ministers like Venkaiah Naidu (Urban Development) and Smriti Irani (HRD) stood as 'average' performers in their overall standing as the expecations were much higher," the report said.

The assessment of ministries and Union Ministers was done based on four parameters - media presence, extent of activity on social media uilisation of MPLAD fund and people's opinion, it added.

Apparently a Cong led survey. A BJP survey would say something else like Modi would be the PM for next 20 years. A communist party survey would portray Khaniya Kumar as the next PM. One should not believe on these surveys. If you recall, in May 2014 one survey stated that Janardhana Poojari would win by a Thumping majority.

I have to say two things about our PM Modi - 1. There is nothing like Gujarat Model of Development which he used as propaganda during Lok Sabha Election. In fact Gujarat is far worse than other states including being behind Bihar. 2. We will very soon come to know about his education qualification as CIC has sought information which was rejected earlier. Of course Arvind Kejriwal letter to CIC made the real impact for CIC to act. He has done distance education and definitely he will have a Roll Number and which university. If the truth is out about his educational qualification mark my words it will be end of his political career that we have a first PM who is really uneducated and faked his certificate.

In india You need not be a degree holder to be a PM. Mrs Sonia Gandhi, a fake Cambridge degree holder ran this country behind the scenes. Congress will not be able to do anything on this. Mr Kejeriwaal has concealed his real address and concealed his Assets in his affidavit. will he also be removed from Delhi Chief minister ship?

Issue is not having a degree, but furnishing false affidavit. Same applies to Irani as well. FYI, Sonya Gandhi never was a minister, when she could easily become PM, she gracefully turned it down. Now, don't quote Harvard Swamy's cock and bull stories to refute this. My information comes from Abdul Kalam's biography. There were only three persons present in prez Kalam's office when she turned it down, Kalam, MMS and Sonya and there's no way for Harvard Swamy to know what transpired three.
Your allegation on AK's concealed address/assets, if it's concealed, who revealed it to you? If there's an iota of truth in these allegations, BJP would have ripped AK apart by now.

Mrs Sonia Gandhi contested elections. for contesting elections you need to give the details of your education to election commission. She was indirectly influencing the government of the day. A person who fakes the degree will not be honest. That was the point. who gave Eric the information that Mr Modi s degree is fake? Mr Kujiliwaal or Mr Pappu?

Most of the subsidies be it urea subside gas subsidy etc did not reach to the people supposed to get these. with direct credit of subsidies nearly nine crore illegal gas connections got cancelled. By the time 3rd year passes, many of the bhakts will also join to say:
Are you Modi's andh bhakt (AB) - No not any more!. We had enough.
Why you are not any more AB: Now we are realising he made fools of us, promising low prices for essential commodities, Fuel, plenty of jobs.
We never had to pay more than 60 Rs. for dal and many other essential commodities but now that price of 200 is not coming down. And this year because of drought, it is definitely going to go much above that.
Our wives had warned us not to deify. Only to praise if Modi does good. But we were Andh bhakts. Now I can not save anything which I could do during UPA\Congress.
Although they looted but they kept the middle\poor\poorer happy with prices in check. Many poorer became poor and poor became middle class during their time.
Now we are becoming middle to poor and poor to poorer. There is no middle class any more. Other class is Adani\Bidani\Ambani who he is after so he can get his election expenses with 2 or 3 lakh people attending his rallies!!! Are there 2 to 3 lakh people who can attend election rally without paying and bringing them by transporting from far away places? Are they genuine crowd who had come with LOVE to listens to Bhashanas? This is where ada\amba\bida and others come in with their heavy weight in currency. They are the beneficiaries always even with tax reduced..!!
By 4th year these bhakts will say "Jai Congress" but I do not want them to chant that. Thy will genuinely say "Jai ho Congress"...
By that time multiple USA visa will be there to go and address USA Congress . They like him....like we do...

Yes the CHANGE for worst, cost of living gone over the roof, income has come down with high inflation & artificial price rise of fuel prices.
Of the 31% who voted Modi, half of them still support means its only 16% supporting this misrule with no direction or plan for internal or foreign policies with vision.
The time this govt., took to create fake scams & allegations into real development, things would have been different than this half truth survey conveys.
