Tobago batsman hits 21-ball ton in T20 game

Port of Spain, April 30 (IANS): Iraq Thomas, a young batsman from Trinidad and Tobago, smashed a 21-ball 100 in what could be the fastest ever Twenty20 ton.

He finished with an unbeaten 131 from 31 balls which helped his team Scarborough-Mason Hall chase down a target of 152 in just eight overs.

Thomas had scored 97 from 53 balls earlier the same day but he went one better against Speyside, posting an explosive knock that featured 15 sixes and five fours, reported cricket.com.au on Friday.

Thomas' effort helped down Chris Gayle's fastest recorded T20 century where he smashed a ton off 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore in an Indian Premier League (IPL) game in 2013.

"I was just very happy to reach my first T20 century. I never thought I would get the runs as quickly as I did but after hitting a few, I realised that something special can happen out there and it came through," Thomas said.
