One Indian nurse, not 4 killed in Yemen attack: MEA

New Delhi, Mar 5 (PTI): The External Affairs Ministry late Friday night said only one Indian nurse was killed and not four in a terrorist attack in strife-torn Yemen's Aden city.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that four Indian nurses were killed in the attack as she asked all Indians living in "danger zones" to return home. She also said the nurses stayed back in Yemen, ignoring advisories by the government.

"Of the four nurses killed in Yemen, only one is Indian named Cecilia Minz," External Affairs Ministry Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

Sixteen people were killed in Aden when a group of terrorists stormed an elderly care home run by a Kolkata-based Missionaries of Charity and sprayed bullets at the residents.

4 Indian nurses among 16 dead in gun attack on Yemen care home

Aden, Mar 4(AFP): Four Indian nurses were among at least 16 people killed today when gunmen opened fire at an elderly care home in Yemen's main southern city of Aden, security officials said.

Four gunmen stormed the care home in Aden's Sheikh Othman district, killing a guard and shooting randomly at residents, the officials told AFP. Dozens of stricken family members arrived at the site following the attack, witnesses said.

One official said the attackers were "extremists" and blamed the Islamic State group, which has been gaining ground in Aden in recent months.

But no group claimed responsibility for the attack, the first of its kind in Yemen, where the internationally- recognised government is grappling with an Iran-backed rebellion on one side and a growing jihadist presence on the other.

President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi has declared Aden Yemen's temporary capital as Sanaa remains in the hands of the Huthi rebels and their allies since they seized it in September 2014.

Al-Qaeda and IS have stepped up attacks in Aden despite the efforts of the government and its backers in a Saudi-led coalition battling the Huthis and their allies to secure it.

However, most of the jihadists' attacks have targeted coalition forces and pro-government Yemeni troops.

On Monday, a suicide car bombing, also in Sheikh Othman, hit a gathering of loyalist forces killing four people and wounding five others, according to a security official said.

On February 17, a suicide bombing claimed by IS killed 14 soldiers. The rebels controlled Aden for months before government loyalists pushed them out in July.

Because of the unrest gripping Aden, Hadi himself and many senior officials in his government spend most of their time in Riyadh.

Our days in this world are decided by the one who watch us from above. It is definitely not a heroic act to storm in side an elder care taking home and rain bullets. The residents are helpless and not in a position to harm anybody. How do these people get such ghastly ideas is a matter to ponder. Can it last for long? Who will benefit out of it? Brave nuns stayed back in the conflict area and served the elderly people who could possibly be the relatives of those who stormed in. May their souls rest in peace.

Do missionary activities on people in Peaceful countries like India where you have a system that will protect you, not a war torn country like Yemen which is secular.

Point to be noted. What do they call this conflict now? These people make a hue and cry when there are small skirmishes in India, which are brought under control within 24 to 48 hours. Here lies the greatness of India and the efficiency of our forces.

It is a very disheartening news where four Indian nurses were killed among 16. May their souls rest in eternal peace and sympathies to the bereaved families and loved ones. Yemen is a dangerous place to live and work as these extremists attack anyone at any place and anytime.

    Well said Ravi Shetty, Mangalore/UAE:
It is not the selfish life or religion but humanity. Complete surrender to the will of God and not to the world. Hard but true.

    "Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Gospel of St. Matthew 5:3-10)
May the world change to humanity...

Some years back, a minister went to a leprosy home run by Mother Theresa's sisters, where he saw a young nun changing the dressing of dirty and foul smelling wound of a leper.
He was taken aback by the sister's smiling face even in that condition. He told her, he would not do that job even for million Rs and sister said she too would not. Then he asked her why she is doing, she looked up and said "For the love of HIM."

These four nuns (not nurses) of Mother Theresa, even risking their life, were serving the old and sick in that old age home. I salute you sisters.

May their souls rest in peace.

krishna, Canada Yes why not, as per my knowledge if they are assigned to go to war-zone they have to go and I am sure they will go. They are been taught to serve people. Will you go there? I don't think so or else you would have not left India. I think people who leave their country and settle in other country they love their country. They are like the same people who have artificial smile on their face.
