Liverpool beat Stoke to reach Capital One Cup final

Liverpool, Jan 27 (IANS): Liverpool FC became the first team to reach the 2016 Capital One Cup football final courtesy of a 6-5 penalty shoot-out victory over Stoke City.

Liverpool won the first leg match 1-0. But Stoke won the second leg match 1-0 after extra time here on Tuesday to square the aggregate score 1-1.

Marko Arnautovic netted on the stroke of half-time for Stoke.

Substitute Joe Allen stepped up to take the winning penalty, and duly finished after Marc Muniesa had the previous spot kick saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Adam Lallana, Christian Benteke, Firmino, James Milner and Lucas also slotted home the penalty in the shoot outs, to help them to their first League Cup final since 2012.

It also means the club reached their maiden first showpiece event under the management of Jurgen Klopp, who joined the club as manager in October.
