Mangalore, Sep 8: The local body elections will be held in 189 wards across the Mangalore district on September 28.
 
The local body election will be held in 189 wards across the district on September 28 in which 4,59,556 electorate will caste votes.

Addressing a news conference on Friday September 7, District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao said that the election notification will be released by September 10. September 17 is the last date for filing nominations and the nominations will be verified on September 18. Withdrawal of nominations must be done before September 20. Counting will held and results will be out on September 30.

Voters

Rao informed that there are 60 wards in Mangalore City Corporation limits with 3,21,570 voters (1,58,357 men and 1,63,213 women), 37,526 voters (18,156 men and 19,370 women) will caste votes in 27 wards of Ullal Town Municipality Council, 20,853 voters (10,151 men and 10,702 women) will vote in the 23 wards of Moodabidri Town.

Municipality Council, 28,256 voters (13,804 men and 14,452 women) in 23 wards of Bantwal Town Municipality Council, 34,588 voters (17,366 men and 17,222 women) in 27 wards of Puttur Town Municipality Council, 4,995 voters (2,481 men and 2,514 women) in 11 wards of Belthangady Town Panchayat and 11,768 voters (6,007 men and 5,761 women) in 18 wards of Sullia Town Panchayat will caste their votes.

Booths

A total of 567 booths have been set up across the district, of which 94 are sensitive booths and 90 are hyper sensitive booths. There are 394 booths in Mangalore City Corporation limits, 44 in Ullal Town Municipality Council, 27 Moodabidri Town Municipality Council, 31 booths in Bantwal Town Municipality Council, 42 in Puttur Town Municipality Council, 11 in Belthangady Town Panchayat and 18 in Sullia Town Panchayat.

Filing Nominations

The candidates contesting from Mangalore City Corporation limits can file their nomination at Deputy Commissioner’s Office while candidates contesting for Ward No 1 to 5 have to file their nominations at Corporation Sub Office in Surathkal. Ullal TMC, Moodabidri TMC, Bantwal TMC, Puttur TMC candidates have to file their nominations at the respective TMC Offices, Belthangady Town Panchayat and Sullia Town Panchayat candidates have to file nomination at respective Town Panchayat offices.

Voters ID and alternate IDs

The voters can caste their votes by presenting the Voters ID cards, in absence of which other 19 alternate IDs will be accepted. Ration card, driving license, Passport, Employees ID card, Bank or Post office pass book are some of the other alternate IDs.

Highlights

Any violation of Code of Conduct must be brought to the notice of Election officer, Public meets must be wound up 48 hours prior to polling while public campaigning can be can be taken up between 7 am and 10 pm. About 2,000 officers will be deployed for election duty.
