Mercury below freezing point across Kashmir


Srinagar, Jan 19 (IANS): The night temperatures across the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday continued to be several notches below the freezing point, the Met Office said.

However, the minimum temperatures improved in the Jammu region. "The minimum temperature in Jammu city was 6.2 degrees on Tuesday and the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 18 to 19 degress Celsius."

"Katra town recorded a minimum temperature of 6.3 degrees while Batote had 2.5, Bannihal minus 0.1, Bhaderwah minus 0.4 and the mercury settled at 4.3 degrees in Udhampur town," a Met official told IANS.

The minimum temperature in Srinagar city was minus 2.3, Pahalgam minus 4.4 and Gulmarg minus 6.0 degrees Celsius. Leh town recorded minus 11.1 and Kargil town minus 11.4 today as the minimum temperature.

The maximum temperature in Srinagar city is likely to hover around 11 degrees during the day. "The weather is likely to remain dry across the state till Wednesday."
