Mangalore, Sep 5
: Teachers’ Day was celebrated with a great pomp at Town Hall, here on Wednesday September 5. Retired teachers were also felicitated on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, B Nagaraj Shetty , district in charge minister of Dakshina Kannada, said that “Teachers have a major responsibility to make the young generation cultured.”

"Ours is a rich tradition, but unfortunately we are neglecting it,” lamented Nagaraj. “Our enthusiasm to call ourselves Indians should be beyond castes and religions. The effort of making India a super power country largely rests at the levels of schools,” he said.

There have been phenomenal changes in the relationship that existed between teachers and students, said Nagaraj. Now the gap between teachers and students are not wide unlike before, but it should not be at the cast of loyalty from students towards teachers," he added.

“Teachers should not only limit their opinions to their students; but also they should guide politicians and social workers in a right way. Teachers should not think that after retirement their responsibility ended rather they should see to it that the society is being led in a right way," said U T Khader MLA of Ullal.
