Forward Bale happy at Real Madrid despite Benitez's sacking


Madrid, Jan 11 (IANS): Welsh star footballer Gareth Bale admits he was sad to see Rafael Benitez sacked as Real Madrid coach, but that he would not be changing his attitude towards the club.

Bale has been in excellent form of late as he proved with a hat-trick in as Zinedine Zidane made a winning debut as Benitez's replacement with a 5-0 win over Deportivo la Coruna, reports Xinhua.

The Welsh forward has been the subject of speculation over a possible return to the English Premier League (EPL), but he says his is fully committed to his current club despite the change in the dugout.

"I had a very good relationship with Rafa, obviously it was a big disappointment to see him go," said Bale, who nevertheless understands that coaches leaving is part of the job.

"Things like this happen in football, you're professional and you get on with it and carry on. I feel good at the moment, I feel fit and I'm just trying to enjoy my football," he added.

Bale said that he remembered watching Zidane play as part of the 'Galactico' Real Madrid side which also included Luis Figo and Ronaldo.

"I didn't really have a favourite... They were all superstars and I just loved watching Real Madrid, it was a great team to watch. 

"I don't feel I need to make a statement to anyone. I know what I'm capable of and I just want to keep enjoying my football. When I do that I play my best," he said.

Bale was asked about his future and although he failed to rule out a move, he said he was happy where he was for the moment.
