Madhu Koda gets Rs.20 lakh extortion call


Ranchi, Jan 11 (IANS): An extortionist has asked former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda to cough up Rs.20 lakh, police said on Monday.

Madhu Koda on Sunday night lodged FIR at Ranchi's Lalpur Police Station. 

A person, identifying himself as Deepak Jaiswal called Koda and demanded Rs.20 lakh as extortion money on Saturday night. 

The second call came on Sunday after which Koda lodged the FIR. The caller threatened to abduct Koda's daughter if the money was not sent to them. 

According to a police source, the call came from Bhubaneswar, capital of Odisha. 

Koda had created history by becoming the chief minister despite being an independent legislator of Jharkhand in 2006. He remained chief minister till August 2008. His wife is a legislator.
