Mangalore, Sep 3: Kaushik R of Canara College has claimed title in the first Blitz Chess Festival organised at Tagore Park, Lighthouse Hill, here on Sunday September 2. He scored against Ganesh Kumar of Ramakrishna College in the final round to win the honour. Ganesh Kumar was placed runner up. The third place was jointly shared by Suraj Prabhu and Kiran A, both from Canara Boys High School. Krupa Jain of SVS, Bantwal won the Best Girl prize. Chisel Pais, Ladyhill English medium school was placed second. Nearly hundred players had taken part in the event amidst heavy rain. The event was organised under the auspices of D K District Administration.

Earlier the event was inaugurated by Balakrishna, RTO officer, Chitradurga.  Archana Nayak, Jyothi Rao and Deric Pinto were also present on the occasion.
 
Prizes were distributed by Ganesh Rao, chairman, Karavali Group of Colleges, D K deputy commissioner  Maheshwara Rao, Pragna Maheshwara Rao, Anand Shetty, president, Mangalore Press Club,   Chaya Kamath, entrepreneur.

Maheshwara Rao congratulated the winners and briefed future plans about developing 'Mini Chess Park' with permanent chess structures.  Ganesh Rao in his address, praised the efforts of the Chess Park, which is first of its kind in India. Tournament coordinators Deric Pinto and Srinivas Nayak Indaje were also present on the dais.
