Kundapur, Sep 1: A friendly get-together of women, under the joint auspices of Uppunda Women’s Multipurpose Cooperative Society and JCI Uppunda, was held in the Shankar Kala Mandir here recently.

The function was inaugurated by Chandra Shekhar Holla, president of the Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, by lighting the lamp.

Inaugurating the programme, Holla said that "in these days of confusion confounded we have been losing the knowledge of the ancient and traditional medicines".

"It is time these traditional medicines were protected, preserved and propagated for the benefit of the poor especially belonging to the least developed villages and this could be made possible only by women", opined Holla.

Nagamma and Nagaratna Hebbar and their associates presented the play of traditional wedding songs and folklore of Kumudanadu. Vijaya Ganesh, Dr Chitra Shetty and Jayanti Aithal helped in putting up a show of ideal couples.

Girija Bai, Bhanumati Bhat, Indira, Jayashri Bhat and Ratna Hebbar were the judges for the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the winners in games and in cultural handicrafts exhibitions. Shrideviamma, a practitioner of traditional medicine, was felicitated by Varamahalaxmi Holla.
