Mangalore, Sep 1: The petty shop vendors, whose shops were evacuated by Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Wednesday August 29, got back to their business within a day, posing a serious challenge to the administration.

These vendors started their business, under the leadership of advocate Ivan D’Souza, at Lady Goschen and said that they will vacate the place only when alternative arrangement is done.

Even though their vehicles, in which they used to sell, were demolished, these vendors did not lose hope and started business by selling vegetables and fruits on baskets and plastic sheets. One of them even used inverted umbrella for selling hair clips.

A memorandum has been submitted to deputy commissioner to provide alternative arrangement as well as compensation to the loss of these vendors, informed D’Souza.

He further said that though policemen guarded the area, they did not disturb the vendors.
