Paceman Rony earns call-up to Bangladesh preliminary squad

Dhaka, Dec 31 (IANS): Bangladeshi pacer Abu Hider Rony has earned a call-up to the national cricket squad after his dazzling performances in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also included uncapped batsmen Mosaddek Hossain and Nurul Hasan in the 27-man preliminary squad for Bangladesh's forthcoming Twenty20 matches, reports bdnews24.com.

Rony was instrumental in Comilla Victorians' triumph in the domestic T20 tournament that concluded earlier this month. The 19-year-old left-arm seamer was the second highest wicket-taker with a tally of 21.

Although Mosaddek and Nurul fell short of expectations in the BPL, the selectors decided to give them another opportunity.

Chief selector Faruque Ahmed had earlier said some new players would be included in the initial squad to help them get a taste of the atmosphere of the team.

Jahurul Islam, who last played for Bangladesh in 2013, made his way back following some superb batting in the BPL, where he scored 205 runs for Rangpur Riders with an average of 41.

Preliminary squad: Tamim Iqbal, Sabbir Rahman, Soumya Sarkar, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Imrul Kayes, Mustafizur Rahman, Jahurul Islam, Abu Hider Rony, Litton Kumer Das, Al-Amin Hossain, Shafiul Islam, Mosaddek Hossain, Mohammad Shahid, Mohammad Mithun, Abul Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed, Shakib Al Hasan, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Mahmudullah, Arafat Sunny, Nasir Hossain, Saqlain Sajin, Nurul Hasan, Sohag Gazi, Shuvagata Hom Chowhudry.
